How to Apply the Skincare Diet Trend? Or Cosmetic Minimalism as Strong Competition for Korean Cosmetics.

Posted by Joanna on

Have you ever wondered how many facial skin care products are in your bathroom? Let's start with cleansing your face - it's very likely that you use a face wash, make-up remover or micellar fluid. Then you restore the right pH to your skin with a facial toner, and then move on to moisturising or regenerating (depending on the time of day). On the cleansed face, you apply an essence, serum, ampoule, day moisturiser with a filter (or regenerating night cream) and eye cream. Often, you precede all of this with a moisturising mask, which you leave on your face for the obligatory 15 minutes. That's 11 cosmetics used every day! Without a doubt, we were convinced to use so many cosmetics by women's magazines and cosmetic brands that have become advocates of the K-Beauty trend, i.e. multi-stage facial skin care using a large amount of cosmetics. K-Beauty is a trend that came to Europe from Korea. It turns out, however, that the "over-groomed" skin has started to react with irritation, redness or dryness, and we, women, are once again asking ourselves: "How to care for our face?". The answer to this question, interestingly, is again coming from Korea and is the opposite of the multi-stage care that Korean women have put on a pedestal. They are now subjecting their "over-groomed" faces to cosmetic minimalism. Korean women are switching to a skincare diet . And girls from all over the world are following them.

Beautiful skin - less is more, or cosmetic minimalism.

Less is more. The saying, which until recently was mainly used in the arrangement of our wardrobe (fewer clothes, but better quality), has recently proven to be perfect for the approach to facial skin care. Minimalist facial care is based on the assumption of limiting the amount of cosmetics used. We stop adding more cosmetic novelties to our bathroom shelf. Instead, we shorten the list to a few basic cosmetics and give our skin a break from the excess of products and ingredients contained in them, which have made it dry, irritated and lost its natural, healthy color. Skincare diet for the face was most appreciated by Asians and Americans. New York dermatologist Neil Sadick claims that hypersensitivity of the skin as a result of its "over-grooming" is a worrying issue:
"I am noticing an increasing number of patients who have developed multiple skin irritations as a result of a complicated skin care ritual . "
As an example, Dr. Sadick cites combining a retinol moisturizer with a product that contains antioxidants, such as vitamin C or salicylic acid. This combination, he says, most often results in irritated and red skin.

Cosmetic bag for cosmetics - great slimming.

Where to start this beauty post? By slimming down your makeup bag, of course. You should have your makeup organizer x-rayed. Pour out all your makeup and start over. By the way, you might also wonder if you really need such a large makeup case… A product that will replace several cosmetics from your makeup bag and help you with minimalist facial care is the GLOV glove. It removes makeup using only water, replacing 5 other makeup removal and cleansing products - face wash gel, makeup removal milk, micellar fluid, toner and cotton pads. The GLOV glove removes makeup without using chemicals. This is your first step on the path to slimming down your makeup bag.

The first step is of course cleansing . You can do it with the aforementioned GLOV glove or leave a make-up removal oil and face wash gel in the cosmetic bag. The next step will be moisturising . You will finish the minimalist care with protection against sunlight. In the cosmetic bag, you will leave a cream with a UV filter.

Minimalist facial care in the morning and evening.

You already know what the skincare diet trend is all about. You also know which cosmetics you should leave in your makeup bag if you decide to go on a cosmetic diet. In the next step, we will explain how to divide your morning and evening facial skin care routines and what, gradually, you can add to your minimalist facial care. If you started your morning by washing your face with a gel, foam or other cleansing product - we recommend that you skip this step during the cosmetic diet. After the night, your skin only needs a light refreshment. You can simply rinse it under running water or use a GLOV glove to refresh it. If you can't imagine not washing your face in the morning, invest in a super light, hypoallergenic face wash gel for sensitive skin. After washing and drying your face, apply a moisturizing cream - necessarily with a high UV filter. Protection against solar radiation is a key step in minimalist facial skin care, which closes your new morning ritual.

Evening care is a bit more extensive, but still strongly in line with the cosmetic diet trend. You can do make-up removal and cleansing in two ways. If you want to achieve a strict cosmetic diet, cleanse your face with a GLOV glove, which will thoroughly and quickly remove all make-up and all impurities. However, if the evening make-up removal and cleansing ritual is something you wait for all day, do not deny yourself this moment just for yourself. Skincare diet allows for two-step cleansing in the form of make-up removal with a natural face oil and then washing your face with a liquid gel. The next step will of course be moisturising. Apply a regenerating serum to your face, which will strengthen your skin overnight. Finish your evening care with a moisturising cream.

Follow this cosmetic diet for at least a month. During this month (or longer), try to introduce other changes to your life that will have a doubly positive effect on your complexion. Follow a healthy diet, get enough sleep, and try to control the impact of stress on your mental state. We guarantee that after a month of such a "detox", your skin will be radiant and healthy, which is how it should always be. When your complexion has calmed down and calmed down, you can slowly add specialist ingredients to your care that it really needs. So listen carefully to its needs. If you think that minimalist care is enough for it, do not add more cosmetics. However, if you notice one of the following needs, act:
  • dehydration - include a cosmetic with hyaluronic acid, glycerin or squalane oil in your care
  • clogged pores, dull complexion - occasionally treat your skin to an AHA acid peel, for example almond
  • acne, oily skin - use a cosmetic containing zinc
  • sallow complexion and a general feeling of weakness - antioxidants, i.e. vitamin C or vitamin E, will help

Natural care - who uses it and recommends it?

The skincare diet trend was started by Korean women. They were the first to notice that their famous 10-step skincare routine could have side effects in the form of dry skin, irritation, redness, grey skin tone or clogged pores. One of the first advocates of minimalist skincare was Liah Yoo, a Korean YouTuber living in New York and owner of the cosmetics brand Krave Beauty. Her best-selling cosmetics are based on the skincare diet trend. Liah is convinced of the beneficial effects of a cosmetic diet. She convinces her readers of this on her blog and on her YouTube channel.

One of the biggest Polish advocates of the skincare diet trend in Poland is Blanca Bożena Społowicz , a cosmetologist and author of the book "Skin Coach. Your way to beautiful and healthy skin". On her blog , she convinces that

"in the abundance of options we have forgotten about the basics of skin care. That the fewer cosmetics on the skin, the better."
If your skin has recently started to cause problems and you don't understand the source of its frustration, just let it breathe. Lighten your makeup bag and put away all those pretty bottles of various products for a test. Go back to the "roots" and give your face a cosmetic diet. Cleanse, moisturize and protect with products with UV filters. And nothing else.
