Traditional Makeup Removal vs. New Makeup Removal Methods

Posted by Joanna on

Once upon a time, or about traditional makeup removal.

Classic make-up removal included three steps. The first was thorough make-up removal from the eyes and eyelashes. Eye shadows, lines and mascara were removed with milk or a dedicated eye make-up remover. The second step was washing the skin with soap, milk or gel. The last step was to use a toner to restore the skin's proper pH , because classic soaps or aggressive gels often excessively degrease the skin and strip it of its protective layer.

What role did these cosmetics play?

Facial wash gel. Previously used solo, today often as one of the stages in multi-stage care. It performs the function of washing the skin, although some claim that washing the skin and removing make-up are two different things and that you should always first dissolve and wipe off the layer of cosmetics and sunscreen (with wipes, oil, milk), and only then proceed to the proper washing of the skin with the help of soap or gel. Face wash soap. It used to have a bad reputation. Why? Although classic soap was great at washing away dirt and sebum, it degreased the skin too much and, being alkaline itself, changed the skin's pH, which is why using a toner to re-acidify it was essential. Milk was used to remove make-up from the entire face (usually chosen by those with dry, mature or sensitive skin) or to remove make-up from the eyes. Milk is much milder than gels or soaps, does not interfere with the skin's pH as much and does not irritate, but not everyone likes its consistency. Toner was a must-have in classic make-up removal. Its role was to restore skin balance after such aggressive washing, washing away remnants of cosmetics used for make-up removal. Today, however, toner can perform various functions, e.g. moisturising, cleansing, astringent. The basic function of toner is still to restore the skin's proper pH. Only when the skin is acidic is it able to naturally protect itself from bacterial growth and is microbiologically balanced.

New methods of makeup removal.

Are you curious about how makeup removal has changed over the years and what has influenced it? On the one hand, the boom in eco-care and minimalism, on the other, the incredible development of technology, new research, new possibilities, new ingredients! Old methods used again and methods never seen before. An incredible range of possibilities. Let's see what interesting things modernity has to offer, or let's organize a review of makeup removal novelties!

Eyelash shampoo

This is a complete novelty. No wonder, in the past such a cosmetic was simply not needed, because to wash off eyeliner or mascara, milk, two-phase liquid or cleansing oil were enough. Why are they unusable today? Because extended, false eyelashes have become very popular. We do not mean those glued-on, plastic eyelashes on a strip, but those that stay with us for a month or longer. Greasy, sticky and too aggressive cosmetics can simply destroy and peel off extended eyelashes. Many brands offer eyelash shampoos, e.g. RevitaLash , Bubble or Noble Lashes . However, we will reveal that beauty bloggers report that using shampoos and foams for washing babies is equally gentle and effective! They especially recommend Johnson's baby foam shampoo. If you do not have eyelash extensions, you can safely use other forms of make-up removal.

Hydrolate

It is actually floral water, which was created in the process of distilling plant material. You have certainly heard about hydrolates, but we cannot not mention them, because their richness and power are great. First of all, they are natural, relatively cheap, and there are incredibly many of them, thanks to which we can easily choose them for the needs of our skin. Plant hydrolates can be used in many ways, as a base for essences, as a base for hair lotions, instead of water for diluting masks, and so on. However, we will focus on them as a substitute for classic tonics, because that is exactly the function of hydrolates - they tone the skin.

How to choose a hydrolate for your skin type?

We will list the most popular ones.
OILY AND COMBINATION SKIN
Witch hazel hydrolate is known and appreciated by those with oily skin, thanks to its soothing properties and its ability to help heal acne. It has a strong antioxidant effect, so it will also delay the aging process.
DRY AND SENSITIVE SKIN
She will love rose hydrolate! It has strong moisturizing properties, firms the skin and prevents water loss from the epidermis. It is hypoallergenic, so sensitive skin will also accept its effects with gratitude.
CAPILLARY SKIN
Roman chamomile hydrolate , and even better, Italian helichrysum , can help vascular skin. It soothes, calms and prepares it for further care.

Sonic toothbrush

Sonic brushes are relatively new, and perhaps they are becoming obsolete. Recently, spatulas (spatulas?), which were used in beauty salons for cavitation peeling, have become available for home use. Although they do not remove make-up, they use ultrasound vibrations of up to 30,000 Hz to move impurities from the pores and thus cleanse them of excess oil, deeply embedded dirt and dead skin cells. The most well-known brush is probably the Foreo Luna . Sonic brushes are made of silicone and are studded with tiny protrusions that penetrate the pores, deeply cleansing them of accumulated impurities. Users of sonic brushes say that the skin is well cleansed and radiant.

Honeycomb silicone sleeve

For example, the Nurse Jamie brand . You put this sleeve on your hand and use your favorite gel or milk, and thanks to the mesh structure made of silicone, the skin is better washed, exfoliated and cleansed more deeply than with just your fingers. The material itself is antibacterial, and the face wash makes the use of cleaning agents more economical than before.
