Makeup Brushes for Beginners: Where to Start?

Posted by hello test on

The number of brushes you can find in stores can be overwhelming and give the impression that makeup is an incredibly complicated process. Of course, it can be - makeup artists create real miracles, sometimes very laborious and time-consuming - but at a basic level, makeup can be done quickly and easily, and brushes are definitely helpful in this.

Types of makeup brushes

Brushes allow you to apply cosmetics with greater precision than using your fingers. It is also more hygienic (assuming that the makeup brushes are kept clean), and more pleasant, because such an applicator gently massages the face. You can choose brushes for every type of makeup: for eyes, lips, face, and there are also different types depending on the cosmetic and makeup technique you want to use. Before you include brushes in your daily makeup routine, get to know them better and choose the ones that will be useful for you. We distinguish:
  • powder brush – one of the most versatile, used for applying powder, blush or highlighter. A person starting their adventure with makeup should definitely get one, and we highly recommend the powder kabuki brush GLOV Kabuki Makeup Brush | GLOV Kabuki are brushes inspired by traditional, theatrical Japanese makeup. They have very dense bristles, they can be used to apply, for example, loose powder or powder highlighter to the face and body;
  • blush brush – it resembles a powder brush, but has a slightly smaller circumference, so you can apply blush with greater intensity than powder, to a smaller area of the face;
  • a conical brush for applying foundation, but it can also be used to finish off a base for bronzer or highlighter. It is easier to blend cosmetics than a powder brush, for example on the jawline;
  • contour brush – for marking facial lines we have a special brush, it is best if it is oblique, because this shape will allow the application to be adjusted to the natural curves;
  • fan brush – extremely useful for a novice, as it helps to remove mistakes. The fan shape works a bit like a sweeping brush. If, for example, eye makeup falls on half of the face, the fan brush will help to remove excess, e.g. eye shadow. This type of brush also helps to disperse the applied cosmetic;
  • universal eyeshadow brush – good for beginners, small and usually quite massive, helps to apply eyeshadow to the eye;
  • eyeshadow blending brush – useful for applying eyeshadows of varying intensity to the eyelid and blending them smoothly;
  • a brush for blending eyeshadows – if you want to create a contrasting combination or want to add depth to your eyes, reach for this applicator, which you will use to press the eyeshadow particles to achieve the desired effect;
  • eyeliner brushes – a precise applicator that helps create a line – a “frame” for the eye. Useful for creating a cat eye.
Our advice If you are just starting to use brushes, then opt for a set of eye makeup brushes. The set from Glov has 5 of them. They are enclosed in a handy tube, so you can always have them at hand, because they are easy to put in your bag. At first, you probably won't be able to use all the possibilities they offer, but practice makes perfect - have fun, try, and you will quickly notice that brushes allow you to conjure up real miracles on the eye!
  • lip brushes – universal for applying lipstick and a contouring brush – flat and beveled. They will be your favorite accessories for everyday use.
So you see that despite the great variety of brushes, only two or three are enough for the beginning, depending on what kind of makeup you do. In our opinion, the most useful for the beginning will be the universal kabuki and a set of eye brushes. Their use will facilitate the application of powder, foundation, blush, and the eye set can be used both for classic, simple application of a single shadow and highlighting the eye, as well as for experimenting with more complex techniques, such as the very fashionable Rainbrows this year, i.e. rainbow eyebrow highlighting. What's more - the eye set can just as well be used for applying cosmetics to the lips. Keep it handy! In addition to the brush, a sponge will come in handy for precise makeup application. Mango Sponge Makeup Sponge will help you evenly apply cosmetics to hard-to-reach places like the wings of your nose or the corners of your eyes. Importantly, it does not absorb water and is hypoallergenic. Together with the brush, it will create a duo of ideal assistants for your daily make-up!

How to Clean Makeup Brushes

When you start using brushes, you should also have basic knowledge about how to maintain them, because without cleaning they can get damaged faster, not to mention the fact that without it you expose your skin to various impurities applied with cosmetics. Take care of your brushes by cleaning them, in the case of brushes used for liquid cosmetics - after each use, and for those for loose cosmetics once every 2/3 days. You can wash them with makeup removers, but one of the best cleaning agents is the Glov soap dedicated for this purpose. It removes impurities very thoroughly and leaves a beautiful, refreshing scent on the brushes. It is important how you store your brushes. You can buy good quality ones in special cases or bags, e.g. the Glov Kabuki makeup brush comes in an eco-friendly, cotton bag with decorative strings, made of recycled materials. Apart from protecting the precious fibers, it also looks great!

It's worth knowing! Using a brush will allow you to use cosmetics economically. Before applying powder, blush or bronzer, which have a liquid formula, dip the brush in warm water and then gently squeeze out the excess using a paper towel. This will prevent the brush from absorbing the cosmetic and you will apply exactly as much of it as you want.
